melon eating people 吃瓜群众
The Internet has given space for “chi gua qun zhong 吃瓜群众”, a Chinese colloquial phrase; which identifies observers who hides within this transient space as anonymities who may safely criticize. Yet these types of behaviours have existed regardless of the Internet. The visuals of Melon Eating People, seek to evoke the nostalgia of the pre-digital age by applying late ’80s mainland Chinese aesthetics through styling and colouring.
